Willows boys blank Yellowjackets

A pair of goals by sophomore forward Giovanni Guttierez and another from senior midfielder Francisco Zepeda helped the Willows High boys soccer team to a successful kick off to the season with a 3-0 win Tuesday in Williams.

Zepeda provided assists on both of Guttierez's scores, and junior midfielder Cesar Hernandez assisted on Zepeda's.

The Honkers put consistent pressure on the Williams defense, with nine different players contributing to Willows' shot total of 28.

With the ball most often on the other end of the field, Honkers junior goalkeeper Jose Valenzuela was only called on to face five shots, all of which he successfully stopped.

Willows (1-0) hosts Gridley on Monday, before playing their first home game of the season on Tuesday, when Paradise comes to town.
