Honkers hold Hamilton at bay

The visiting Willows High boys soccer team scored a goal in each half Thursday, handing Hamilton a 2-0 defeat.

Salvador Gonzalez and Jorge Mendoza moved the twine for the Honkers. For Gonzalez, it was his team-leading 17th score of the season, while Mendoza recorded his second. The duo also assisted on each other's goals.

Gonzalez's five shots topped Willows' 16-shot effort, with Mendoza and Diego Esparza each firing off three.

"The team played great, regardless of the wet conditions and unfit conditions on the field," said Willows coach Jose Cano. "Our defense which includes Brett Nacis, Christian Canales, David Cisneros and Fabian Reynoso played great all game."

Christian Perez saved all 10 balls fired his way.

Willows (7-7-2, 7-5-2 Sacramento Valley League) battled Tuesday at Rio Vista, and hosts Williams Thursday.

The Braves fell to 7-7-1 and 7-6-1 in the SVL. They visited Esparto Tuesday, and return home Thursday to host Rio Vista.
