Welsh hits 14 in collegiate debut
Ryan Welsh, a 2012 graduate of Willows High School scored 14 points in 15 minutes on Nov. 17 playing in his debut game for Hamline University of St. Paul, Minn. Welsh hit 5 of 6 shots and was 3 for 3 from behind the arch as the Pipers scored a 92-86 win over Wisconsin Lutheran in overtime.
On Tuesday, Welsh scored eight points in an 84-78 win against the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
Providence holds awards night
Providence Christian High held its fall sports awards night recently to recognize the efforts of the volleyball and cross country teams. Tucker Hoffman claimed first place and Guy Sinclair, third, during the Mountain Valley League Championships. Nathan Bristley took second in the junior varsity division. Hoffman also qualified for the state championships with a 12th-place showing at the Northern Section finals.
Elizabeth Anderson and Lyndsay Lely each received an award for being a four-year member of the volleyball team, as did Hoffman for cross country.
Additionally, Bristley and Elizabeth Manthei received awards for being the member of each squad with the highest GPA.
