Sports Briefs: Feb. 5

Lady Braves bounce East Nic

The Hamilton High girls basketball team completely dismantled East Nicolaus on the road Tuesday, burying the Spartans 66-31 to improve to 18-2 overall and 7-0 in the Mid-Valley League. The Braves visited Fair Oaks on Thursday to play Sacramento Waldorf, before returning to Hamilton City on Friday to welcome Esparto.

Next week, Hamilton travels to Los Molinos on Tuesday, and hosts Biggs Thursday.

Willows Little League signing up players

Tryouts for minors and majors will be Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. Baseball will be held at the west Little League field, with softball at the east field.

Opening Day is March 20, beginning at 10 a.m., and the BBQ is March 28.

Globetrotters dribble into Redding

The world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their special brand of hardcourt hijinks to Redding for one night only. The clown princes of basketball will perform at 7 p.m. April 20 at Shasta College. Tickets start at $24 and are available at www.ticketweb.com.

Feature story ideas needed

Do you know any area athlete whose accomplishments in his or her particular sport are noteworthy? If so, Tri-County Newspapers would enjoy hearing about them so we can highlight their outstanding or unconventional feats in a future feature story. We are looking for story ideas to run along with the normal coverage of the high school sports scene. These could be about athletes of any age, involved in any sport, whose story would be interesting to sports enthusiasts in the area.

American Legion holding tryouts

The Westside American Legion summer baseball program is hosting mandatory tryouts on Saturday, Feb. 13, at noon at Corning High School. The program anticipates fielding both 19U "A" Warriors and 17U "B" Braves clubs this summer.
