Slug Bugs off to a good start in Willows Major Girls Little League

Slug Bugs vs. Ravens
In the battle of the Willows Major Girls division, the Slug Bugs pulled out a come from behind victory in the bottom of the sixth inning to hold on to their undefeated season and improve their record to 8-0 after defeating the Ravens 9-8.

Samantha Brott got the start on the mound for the Slug Bugs and went 2 2/3 innings before being relieved by Rylee Smith in the third inning. Brott had 6 K’s and gave up 3 hits while going 3 for 3 at the plate with 4 RBI’s. Smith did a fine job in relief striking out 7 in 3 1/3 innings of work while giving up only 3 hits. 

Alyssa Beatty received the player of the game for the Slug Bugs after going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and playing solid defense a shortstop. Delainy Ward went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

The outstanding player for the Ravens was Morgan Hughes who pitched a complete game striking out 8 and only allowing 7 hits and 3 walks. Hughes was also 1 for 4 with an RBI. Meagan Hughes had a solid game at the plate going 3 for 3 with two doubles and 3 RBI’s. Garett Hanson was 2 for 4.

Slug Bugs vs. Softball Chicks
Samantha Brott led the Slug Bugs to a 13-0 victory over the Orland Softball Chicks pitching her first no-hitter and striking out 11 batters in 5 innings while allowing only 4 walks. The Slug Bugs offense busted out 12 hits; leading the way was Brott and Alyssa Beatty who were both 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Lainie Alves was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Rylee Smith, Savanah Bearquiver, McKenzie Culp, Macy Baker, Delainy Ward and Justine McCorkle each singled in the game.

Slug Bugs vs. Crushers
Rylee Smith pitched a complete game giving up just 3 hits; striking out 8 and going 2 for 3 at the plate to lead the Slug Bugs to a 6-5 win over the Orland Crushers.
Macy Baker was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI’s. McKenzie Culp and Natalie Massa each singled. Justine McCorkle had a great catch in the outfield and stole 3 bases to score the go ahead run in the sixth inning.

Slug Bugs vs. Combats
Natalie Massa blasted a home run a triple and two singles to lead the Slug Bugs to a 21-9 victory over the Orland Combats. Samantha Brott got the win on the mound striking out 10 allowing only 3 hits while hitting a home run at the plate. McKenzie Culp was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI’s. Rylee Smith was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Alyssa Beatty was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Delainy Ward was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and Macy Baker was 2 for 2 with a triple and 2 RBI’s.
