Trojans 10th at Tim Brown meet

If you were a varsity wrestler for any high school in Northern California, there was a good chance you were at the Tim Brown Memorial Tournament held Friday and Saturday in Sacramento.

A total of 97 schools grappled at the two-day meet, with the Orland High squad coming home with a 10th-place finish.

Clovis West won the meet with a team total of 174 points. They were followed by Folsom (148), Del Oro (122), Ponderosa (115.5), Chico (107), Windsor (106), Dela Salle (103.5), Angelo Rodriguez and Oak Ridge (101.5) and Orland (98) rounding out the top 10.

Willows came in 61st with 33 points, and Corning's 70 points was good for 70th. Neither school placed a wrestler among the place-winners.

Victor Raygoza and Layne Embrey both finished in the top-8 in their weight class, with Raygoza taking silver at 220 pounds and Embrey posting a sixth-place finish at 126.

Orland wrestles in Wheatland on Wednesday while Willows is in Live Oak.

Both squads will take part in the Corning Invitational on Saturday.
