Lady Honkers win one in Live Oak
The Willows High varsity girls got three games of court action in over the weekend, finishing 1-2 in the Lois Langford Invitational held at Live Oak High.
The Lady Honkers began the tournament on a high note with a 44-20 win over Winters on Thursday.
Ally Brunner poured in 20 points and Morgan Hughes tacked on 10 as seven players made their way into the scoring column. Alyssa Beatty, Kaylin Jones, Baneli Lomeli and Kaylin Renfro each scored three points, and Sam Brott added a pair.
Baylee Opperman led all scorers with 23 points, and also swatted away seven Willows shots.
On Friday the Honkers faced a strong opponent in Placer, and were toppled 56-13.
Brunner's six points was high for Willows and Hughes added a trey.
Brott led the rebounding effort with seven, while Hughes and Brunner collected six apiece.
Play concluded Saturday with a 54-43 loss to Corning.
Brunner picked up a double-double with team high of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Hughes drained a trip of 3-pointers among her 16 points, to go with her seven boards. Renfro came down with seven rebounds.
Corning's Gates Fears netted 20 points.
Willows (1-3) played in Orland on Tuesday, and is in tournament play this weekend in Durham.
