Lady Honkers waylay West Valley
The Willows High girls tennis team made a triumphant debut on the courts at home Thursday, taking no prisoners in a 9-0 whitewashing of visiting West Valley.
The three players at the top of the Willows ladder all posted straight-set wins. Kaylen Wilson stopped Amanda Richards, 6-3, 6-0 on the ace court; Kylie Gammon set down Allison Hernandez, 6-4, 6-0; and Bisma Khan dominated Emily Sperau by identical 6-1 counts.
Cindy Vang needed to come back in three sets on Court 4, losing the first set 4-6, but rallying for wins of 6-2, 6-0 over Anahi Trejo.
Hadiya Khan served up a double-bagel, 6-0, 6-0 over Nicole Smith, and MacKenzie Gomes completed the singles sweep with another comeback victory, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 over Lindsey Murill.
The second match in doubles play was the closest, with Bisma and Hadiya Khan besting Soerau/Trejo, 8-4.
Wilson/Gammon controlled Richards/Hernandez, 8-1 on the first court, and Vang teamed with Makayla Chacon for an 8-0 triumph over Smith/Murrill.
The Lady Honkers (1-0), battles Anderson on the road Tuesday, and host Live Oak on Thursday.
