Honkers hoop it up for homecoming

The Willows High girls and boys basketball teams made their most of their homecoming double-date with Esparto on Friday, dancing all over the Spartans to take both contests.

Eight different Lady Honkers scored in a one-sided 42-9 victory in the first game.

Baneli Lomeli led Willows with 11 points, with Lexy Weber following with eight, Kaylin Renfro adding six and Morgan Hughes, five.

The Lady Honkers took control of the glass with 30 rebounds, with Hughes gathering eight. Her eight steals also paced a strong defensive effort that recorded 24 steals on the night.

The Lady Honkers upped their season records to 16-6 overall, and 8-1 in the Sacramento Valley League.

Willows played in Hamilton City on Tuesday, and hosts Durham on Friday.

BOYS

Willows was seeing double in the boys matchup, as five different Honkers scored in double figures in the 72-22 rout.

Chris Walter led the way with 13 points, and was joined by Jake Pence with 12 and Chase Lambert with 11, while Jake Martin and Ryan Amaru put up 10 apiece.

Lambert's eight rebounds was the tea high, and the Honkers hit 11 of 19 from the free-throw line.

Willows improved to 9-13 on the year, and 5-4 in the SVL.

The Honkers hosted Hamilton on Tuesday, and welcome Durham to town on Friday.
