Princeton splits with Westwood in NVL finale

The Princeton Eagles split a doubleheader with Westwood on Friday to finish in second place in the North Valley League standings at 5-3.

Westwood defeated Princeton 5-4 in the five-inning game, limiting the Eagles to just one hit, a double by Nick Hansen.

Tyler Roach took the loss despite giving up just three hits of his own. He struck out four and walked two.

In the second game, Princeton scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning and captured a 9-6 victory.

Hansen was 3-for-5 with a triple while Guillermo Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a double. Roach also had a triple while Cameron Larsen had two hits.

Hansen pitched the first three innings and gave up five runs on two hits. Darren Swearinger finished the final four innings to get the win. He allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts.

The Eagles also dumped Champion Christian last week, 14-7. Rodriguez, Roach, Hansen and Larsen all had two hits apiece with Anthony Sorrels ripping a double.

The Eagles are 13-6 overall and are ranked No. 2 in the Division 6 playoff points behind Redding Christian.

Softball
The Eagles missed out on a chance to advance to the playoffs after dropping a doubleheader with Westwood on Friday, 7-4 and 4-3.

In the 7-4 loss, Kodi Gimblin, Carolina Rodriguez and Savanah Nelson each had a hit to lead the offense. Davi Schmidt took the loss despite giving up just one hit.

In the second game, Nelson was 4-for-4 with a triple and a double, but Gimblin had the only other hit for the Eagles. Schmidt took the loss, striking out nine in the process.

The Eagles won a nonleague game earlier in the week, beating Faith Christian 18-5.

Faith scored five runs in the first inning, but Schmidt entered the game and kept the Lions hitless the rest of the way while striking out 14.

Ericka Donohugh was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and a pair of home runs. Schmidt and Nelson each had three hits while Ariana McKinzie and Rodriguez had two hits apiece.

The Eagles finish the season with a record of 7-18 on the season and 2-8 in league play.
