Varsity Football

Willows 18, Live Oak 14

The Honkers earned a hard-fought road victory at Live Oak on Friday, finishing the year 7-3, 4-2 in the Sacramento Valley League.

Swimming

Three Honkers swimmers earn All-Section

Freshman Molly Bateman was named to the girls first-team All-Northern Section swim team for her performance at the Masters Meet on Oct. 29.

The Honker's lone senior this year, Kasey Foley, earned a spot on the boys second team, and Veronica Foley, another freshman, was named to the girls second team All-Section.

JV Volleyball

Willows 2, Trinity 0

The Willows High JV volleyball team remained undefeated for the season, and are league champions after winning on the road against Trinity 25-22, 25-21 on Thursday.

Morgan Hughes and Alyssa Beatty led the Honkers offensive game, with each putting down five kills, while Baneli Lomeli added four.

Lomeli served up one ace on the night, with teammates Rylee Smith and Beatty also acing the home-team once.

Smith totaled six assists for the evening, while Kaylin Jones dished the ball out five times.

Youth Softball

Diamonds on dirt in Sacto tourney

The Glenn County Diamonds U-14 softball team competed in the Canned Food Drive Tournament at Freedom Park in Sacramento on November 5-6.

The Diamonds started off the tournament in a winning fashion, downing the Mizuno AA 11-4.

Rylee Smith led off the game with a single followed by Lainie Alves, who reached on an error putting runners on second and third for Morgan Hughes. She singled to plate Smith and Alves for the first runs of the game. In the second inning, Ashlyn Geiger who reached base on a single, would score after Kat Taylor reached on an error.

Audra Vessels connected for a two-run homer in the third inning, and in the final inning, the Diamonds would tack on six more runs with Smith doubling to lead off the inning, followed by singles from Hughes, Vessels, Tori Boschi and Baneli Lomeli.

Smith got the win on the mound going the distance, striking out four and only allowing five hits.

In Game 2 of Saturday's pool play, the Diamonds fell to the Napa Extreme 11-1. Vessels got the only hit of the game for the Diamonds, who were plagued by seven errors on defense.

Rylee Deitz took the loss in the circle the hill, giving up two hits and striking out a pair.

In the final round of pool play, the Diamonds fell to the California Tornado's out of Fairfield by a score of 13-2. Hughes had a run scoring double in the fourth, plating Smith who had reached on a fielder's choice and Deitz singled to score Hughes.

Hughes took the loss on the mound striking out two and giving up seven hits. Defensively, Baneli Lomeli did an outstanding job in her first catching outing of the season.

In Sunday's single elimination round, the Diamonds were seeded third in the Silver Division and played the Mizuno AA team but an error-plagued game led to an 8-0 loss and early elimination for the Diamonds who only managed 3 hits in the game.

The Diamonds finish the fall ball tournament circuit on December 3-4 in the "Toys for Tots" tournament in Yuba City.
