Maxwell, Colusa teams earn top seeds
DURHAM - The Colusa Redskins and the Maxwell Panthers each earned a No. 1 seed for the Northern Section baseball playoffs as determined by the Northern Section Baseball Advisory Committee on Wednesday at Durham High School.
Colusa claimed the No. 1 seed in Division 3 after winning the Sacramento Valley League championship with a 19-6 record. The Redskins hosted Live Oak in the first round on Thursday. The winner of that game will play on Tuesday in the second round.
Maxwell claimed the No. 1 seed in Division 5 after posting a 25-3 record on the year. The Panthers, who have won three straight Northern Section titles and four in the past five years, will host Bishop Quinn today.
The contest could be the last game of any kind for Bishop Quinn, which is scheduled to close its doors in June.
Other No. 1 seeds included Pleasant Valley in Div. 1, Winters in Div. 2, Quincy in Div. 4 and Redding Christian in Div. 6.
Other Tri-County area teams earning playoff berths included Hamilton, Corning, Orland, Willows, Princeton and Pierce.
Hamilton is the No. 2 seed in Div. 3 and will host Pierce today at 4 p.m. Corning, the fifth seed in Div. 2, plays at Central Valley while Orland, the seventh seed in Div. 2, plays at Sutter today.
Willows, the No. 6 seed in Division 3, plays at Trinity today while Princeton is the second seed in Div. 6 and will have a bye in the first round.
Princeton hosts Butte Valley on Tuesday.
