Tri-County GM takes Chico post
Fred Crosthwaite, general manager of Tri-County Newspapers, has announced his resignation.
Crosthwaite served as GM of the four newspapers since they were purchased in July by Freedom Communications Inc. He previously served several months as advertising director of the Appeal-Democrat, a member of Freedom’s family of newspapers.
Crosthwaite is leaving to serve as advertising director and online director for the Chico Enterprise-Record and Oroville Mercury-Register. He held similar positions with those MediaNews Group newspapers prior to joining the Appeal-Democrat in April 2007.
“I was fortunate to be offered a position close to my home and family,” Crosthwaite said. “I have enjoyed working with the individuals in each of the great communities that Tri-County Newspapers serves and look forward to continuing those friendships.”
Tri-County Newspapers publishes four twice-weekly newspapers: the Colusa County Sun-Herald, the Willows Journal, the Orland Press-Register and the Corning Observer.
Don T. Bricker, publisher of the Appeal-Democrat, thanked Crosthwaite for his efforts.
“Our company has grown and seen significant change in the past year,” Bricker said. “Fred has played a key role in a number of initiatives and I appreciate his efforts. He has played an especially critical role in leading the transition of the Tri-County biweeklies to Freedom’s ownership. I wish Fred well in his future endeavors.”
No replacement for Crosthwaite has been announced.
