Fifth possible candidate emerges for Sutter supervisor seat
A Yuba City woman with an extensive history of working in government and public policy has become the latest to throw her name into the mix for the District 3 seat on the Sutter County Board of Supervisors.
Narinder Dhaliwal, who worked for the county from 1996 to 2005, announced plans to take out papers Monday to run for the seat against incumbent Larry Munger and three other challengers.
Dhaliwal is currently working as a program liaison for the Health and Social Policy Institute, a job in which she works on injury prevention and provides technical assistance for 14 counties, including Sutter.
Previously, she was project director for the state's Clean Air Project for ETR Associates in Sacramento, and has also served on the state's secondhand smoke advisory commission, as chair of the Friends of Yuba City Parks and Recreation, and on a steering committee working on substance abuse issues.
Dhaliwal, whose press release said she has three grown children, did not immediately return a call for further comment Monday.
While working for Sutter County, she'd been in the welfare division of Health and Human Services and ended her stint as a public health program coordinator for Sutter County Health.
Her release said as a supervisor, Dhaliwal would work especially to represent those without a voice, cutting regulations and fees on business, improve disaster preparedness and maintain a fiscally conservative budget.
Munger, who has announced plans to run for re-election, is also being challenged by Jeannie Klever of Sutter, Horacio Paras Sr. of Yuba City and Richard Boundy of Tierra Buena.
The period to take out in-lieu papers to run in the June 8 primary for a county office ends Friday.
