Child drowns near Orland
The Glenn County Coroner’s Office is investigating the apparent accidental drowning Monday night of an Oregon child.
Four-year-old Ian Walker Jones of Dallas, Ore., was visiting his grandparents on County Road 25 south of Orland.
Around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a 911 call from John Williams, the boy’s grandfather. Williams, 55, told dispatchers his grandson was found face down in the swimming pool.
Susan Williams told deputies she was watching her other grandchildren when she discovered Ian in the pool. She said her husband and the child’s father, Kevin Jones, administered CPR immediately.
It was not clear how long the child was unaccounted for, but family members estimated about 10 minutes. Laura Jones, the child’s mother, told deputies that her son had been heard plucking strings on his grandfather’s guitar about 5-10 minutes prior.
The child was transported by ambulance to Glenn Medical Center in Willows. Paramedics continued to administer CPR in the ambulance, however rescue-breathing efforts were not successful.
The child was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 7:26 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s office. An autopsy report has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
