Hanson honored as Lions Club Citizen of the Year

Fay Hanson was honored April 24 at the District 4-C1 Lions Convention held at Rolling Hills Casino in Corning. She was chosen as the Willows Lions Club Citizen of the Year earlier in April and they entered her in the District Citizen of the Year competition. District 4-C1 takes in 54 Lions clubs from Arbuckle to the Oregon border.

The honor was somewhat of a surprise to Fay, as she is not accustomed to being on the receiving end of things but rather on the giving end. She was chosen because she exemplifies the Lions Motto “We Serve.”

She has been a 4-H leader for 34 years; worked with ROP students; helped students with community service hours after school; raised four children from broken homes; was a volunteer aid at Willows Intermediate School for four years; served as Willows High School natural helper advisor for six years; helped coach little league for four years; Fay has cooked at the local hospital; drove a school bus for a time; was a seamstress; drove a freight truck route to Stonyford; and was a rural mail carrier.

Fay is co-owner of The Body Works with her son Ed Hanson where she daily gives of herself to assist those who need a little extra help. She is a real people person with a cheerful disposition, encouraging humor.
