Stabbing victims' injuries not life-threatening
Two stabbing victims from an incident at a Live Oak gas station were identified Tuesday as Anthony Mendoza, 19, and a 17-year-old juvenile, both of Live Oak, according to a Sutter County Sheriff's Department official.
The incident at an ARCO gas station and adjacent Super Power Mart on Highway 99 at Pennington Road was reported at 7:40 p.m. Monday.
Mendoza and the juvenile were taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital with abdominal wounds that department spokesman Brenda Baker called serious but not life threatening.
Mendoza and the juvenile fought with 18-year-old William Silva, also of Live Oak. It was not immediately clear if the fight was gang-related, Baker said.
Silva was also injured during the fight and was treated at the hospital, then released.
No one had been arrested Tuesday morning and detectives had not determined what charges to seek, Baker said.
"We're still trying to sort that out," said sheriff's Capt. Dave Samson on Monday about the circumstances of the fight.
One car, its doors open, was parked in front of a gas pump. A yellow crime scene tape lined the gas station. The incident occurred across the street from City Hall.
As deputies investigated, spectators watched from across the street. The gas station fronts Highway 99.
Hilary Petrella, 26, who has lived around the corner from the gas station for about two years, said it's usually quiet.
"Now I want to move," she said.
Tom Kaulitz, 17, who lives nearby, said, "Sometimes it can be Bores-ville USA. This is the biggest thing that has probably happened all month."
