Willows man faces deadly weapon charge
A routine traffic stop Saturday night ended with a Willows man behind bars charged with possession of a deadly weapon.
Alex Salas, 20, was taken into custody after officers found a 16-18” machete-style knife in his vehicle. Salas faces charges of violating his probation and possession of a deadly weapon, according to Glenn County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Dicharry.
Willows Police Chief Bill Spears said officers stopped Salas and two passengers in an early 1990s Honda Accord for driving with expired registration. When one of the passengers opened the glove box to retrieve insurance and registration information, officers noticed what appeared to a handgun.
The gun turned out to be a pellet gun, however a vehicle search produced the large knife, a rifle of unknown caliber, and an unknown amount of marijuana, Spears said.
Both passengers were released without incident.
Salas was booked into Glenn County Jail. His bail was set at $17,000.
