Lamb Derby crowns Mini Miss, Princess
Michaela Biggs and Sarah Mondonca took the crowns of Lamb Derby Princess and Mini Miss Wednesday.
The pair competed in their individual competitions against a backdrop of glamour and pageantry.
Lamb Derby Princess Michaela Biggs is the daughter of Mike and Rebecca Biggs, of Willows.
Biggs wore a lovely pink evening dress when her grandfather, Marvin Stites, escorted her on stage.
Little Miss Sarah Mondonca is the daughter of Steven and Jeanette Mondonca. Mondonca wore a white formal gown when her father escorted her on stage.
This was the first year Lamb Derby introduced the princess pageant. The competition was opened to junior high school girls who were judged on talent as well as stage presence.
For her talent, Biggs read a fictional story “My Brother the Dork.” She was joined on stage by Delainy Ward, saxophone performance, Jena Daley, vocal, Tayler Smith, tap dance, Brooke Lindell, vocal, and Kaitlyn Berglof, who preformed stand up comedy.
Berglof, the daughter of Greg and Phyllis Berglof, was named First runner-up and Miss Congeniality.
The Little Miss pageant was opened to Willows kindergartners. The group performed a dance to “Spoon full of Sugar” from Mary Poppins and each answered a question.
Mondonca’s father, Steven, said Sarah spent a lot of time practicing for the event, but only after her homework was done.
“It was a lot of fun,” Steven Mondonca said.
Alondra Araiza, Rylee Imhoff, Hanna Parisio, Jasmine Soto, JayCee Ward, Jessica Carrillo, Michaela Fowler, Emily Silva, E’liyjah Sweeney, and Daria Danley also competed in the Little Miss Pageant.
Danley, the daughter of Steve and Mary Danley, was named First runner-up.
During the pageant, Laundry Otterson and Katie Lewis performed “Colors of the Wind” from the movie Pocahontas, accompanied by Lori Balderson on the piano.
Rick Allen performed “Thank Heaven for Little Girls.”
Miss Teen Butte County performed a ballet to the music “Hide and Seek.”
Bob Barnes served as the Master of Ceremonies. Pageant organizers were Margaret Albiston, Deanna Hamilton, and Laura Brown.
