Where's my Blackberry?
Must be I'm getting old, do you think? I just now heard the announcer on TV say due to a power shortage in Chico, blackberry users were having trouble with their blackberries. It is still wintertime. Blackberries are either frozen or in jars or cans. Why would people be having trouble just because the power was off? Of course I realize that a blackberry is one of those new technical gadgets, but it does sound weird to persons my age. I am lucky to be able to type on my computer, and, I assure you, I probably will never own a modern blackberry. For that matter, I could even be spelling the word incorrectly. It could be blackbury as far as I'm concerned. Is the blackberry related to the I-pod, or are they not related at all. It's O.K. though. I know what WPA stands for and also CCC, which seems to be back in business. And I know the definition of a constable and a justice-of-the-peace. They used to be able to perform marriages, but now, in Glenn County, the only person qualified to do that other than a minister or a judge, is the tax assessor, Vince Minto. I lucked out and got to attend two musicals this last week. The first was the Champagne Salute to Irving Berlin presented by the Orland High School under the auspices of Music Director Butch Peterson. The entire program was great except the sound system could have been a little better. In addition to the wonderful voices of the students, we were treated to a duet by Joe and Estelle Edgar and two dances by Leeds and Jan Lacy. The dancers did a waltz and a polka. Then I heard Leeds was limping around on a bad ankle. You did a beautiful job, anyway. Then on Sunday I was treated to a trip to Chico to see the musical "Oklahoma." What a great job those Chico actors did. I have seen "Oklahoma" several times over the past years, but I think this was one of the best I ever witnessed. Thanks to those in Chico who are keeping this wonderful Chico Theatre Company in existence. The Capay Rancho Women's Club is sponsoring a bus trip to Filoli Mansion and Gardens on April 29 in Woodside. I understand the gardens are beautiful. Lunch will be held at Filoli and is included in the cost of the $70 trip. Call Pat Ragan at 865-2615, but hurry. Reservations need to be in by March 10. Then there is a three-day trip from June 25 to June 27. We will stay in Ashland, see Shakespeare's "Midsummer Nights Dream," take a jet boat trip down the Rogue River, attend another play with dinner at a cabaret, and even shop at Harry and David's. The Capay Women's Club is a nonprofit organization and all proceeds raised go to help the community.
