School Briefs: January 9, 2013

College workshop Thursday

The Willows High School Counseling Department will host a California Cash for College workshop from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Thursday in the library, 203 N. Murdock Ave., Willows.

The workshop is for both parents and students of those who are planning to attend a community college, Cal State, UC, private college or technical school.

A financial aid adviser from California State University, Chico will be present to go over the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

If 25 or more seniors participate, there will be a $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Student speaker deadline nears

The Willows Lions Club Student Speakers Contest topic this year is "How Do We Create and Keep Jobs in America?"

High school students are eligible to compete.

The contest will take place Jan. 31 at the Willows City Council Chambers, 201 N. Lassen St.

The winner of the local club contest will advance for further opportunity to win awards and scholarships.
