Avenue of Lights today

The last chance for this year's Avenue of Lights will take place from 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. today and Sunday the Glenn County Fairgrounds in Orland, 221 E. Yolo St. The cost is $10 per car.

Stop in at the North Pole Lodge following the drive-through to see Santa, special theme trees, and Christmas displays.

A snack bar will be open with a holiday menu of hot chocolate, popcorn, and other treats.

Voter registration deadline near

The last day to register to vote for the special state Senate District 4 election is Monday.

Registered voters who have moved within the county, changed their name or changed a mailing address must complete a new voter registration card. Election material will not be forwarded in the mail.

The Jan. 8 special election runoff is between Republican Jim Nielsen and Democrat Michael "Mickey" Harrington.

The winner replaces Congressman-elect Doug LaMalfa, R-Richvale.

Candidates for the office were on the Nov. 6 ballot, but none earned the 50.1 percent of the vote required to win outright.

Input on refuge sought

The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is proposing adding 75 acres to its hunting area, and the public can comment on the plan.

The land is already part of an undeveloped area of the refuge. No new land is being acquired, and none of the visitor area will be reduced.

There are two documents to be reviewed: Compatibility Determination for Hunting and a draft Environmental Assessment. The comment period ends on Feb. 21.

Artist showing paintings

Colusa artist Hal Tacker will have his paintings on display at a one-man show "The Art of Hal Tacker" from 10 a.m. — 7 p.m. today at the Colusa Golf & Country Club.

In addition to his original paintings, he will have drawings and limited prints for sale.

The golf course is located along Highway 20 just east of Colusa.

Motor-Icicle Run set

The annual Motor-Icicle Run, a pledge ride to fund a memorial for the Orland's heroes and to light the historic Orland Arch, will be held Jan. 19.

Meet at the Orland Fire Department, Fifth and Colusa streets, at 7 a.m. for a pancake breakfast, $6, followed by the ride, 8 a.m.-10 a.m.

A chili feed, 50/50 and prize raffle will follow immediately after the ride.

Entry fee is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger.

Pledges are encouraged.
