Marna Linzy

Picture a flower that is in bloom, hear the sweet sound of a symphony, and run your fingers across the smooth face of a porcelain doll. This will help you understand the light that shined as Marna Linzy was born on January 10, 1921, in a rural community near the town of Rupert, Idaho.

The most significant life-changing event was when she met a young gentleman by the name of Clyde Linzy. Marna and Clyde were married on July 29, 1940, in Pocatello, Idaho. They moved from Idaho to Southern Californian, then, in 1954, they moved to a farm in the Capay district. Clyde and Marna’s bond together was unbeatable and stood the test of time. This was proven as they were to celebrate their 68th year of marriage together. Clyde and Marna were truly inseparable.

Marna graduated from Albion State Normal School in Albion, Idaho, and was a retired school teacher. Caring about her community and preserving farm land in the Capay area was of great importance to her. She was actively involved in the North Eastern Glenn county Landowners Assoc. since the 1960s.

She was a musician and played in bands with Clyde for decades. She played the piano, banjo, and ukulele, while Clyde played the fiddle and the guitar. Marna and Clyde were active members in the Capay Grange and headed the annual Hoedown for 17 years. All of the kids and grandchildren have wonderful memories of evenings of song and dance.

Marna was always looking for an adventure through everyday happenings. She had to fill up her days with projects that were exciting. She took what was seemingly mundane and made it exciting for everyone. She creatively turned casual events into memories that will last forever. She knew how to touch people in a way so that you’d never forget her.

Marna was so interactive and encouraging with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She inspired uas to be independent and believe in ourselves. It was her discipline coupled with her great kindness and genuine interest in our lives that helped us become who we are today. She had a heart of gold and would be there for the people she loved in an instant. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

One of the many things her family adored about Marna was her ability to live life to its fullest. Complacency was not an option within her belief system. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, collector, musician, cattlewoman, gardener, storyteller, and involved community member, what we will remember her for more than anythin was her caring spirit and kind heart.

Marna passed away on May 16, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Clyde, and their children Jan Linzy of Reno, Nev., Terry Linzy, Ron and Sarah Linzy, Clark and Peggy Linzy, all of Capay, and Betty Linzy of Chico; 12 grandchildren, eight grand-grandchildren, and “Auntie” Joan Berini of Orland. Graveside services will be held at the Odd-Fellow Cemetery in Orland (County road P) at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 22. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Capay Volunteer Fire Department in care of FD Sweet and Son Mortuary, 825 A Street, Orland, CA, 95963.
