Letter to the Editor: A reader’s compliant is cause for thanks
Dear Editor,
The purpose of a local paper is to inform
its readers on local issues. I was dismayed when receiving (the Nov. 5)
Willows Journal that I should own a computer and be literate in same to
know how the local election turned out.
The Willows Journal has
become more of a shopping news throwaway and not a very good one at
that. Two or three local items are on the front page. Maybe an obituary
printed inside, a gallery of photos seldom local and lots of coverage
for Tri-County sports. Even the classified are mostly out of county.
It seems to me you have plenty of space to print the local news if you omit the full-page fillers of mostly fluff.
Please do better; at least try.
Virginia Chappell
Willows
Dear Virginia,
Reader feedback like yours is always welcome, even if that feedback points out something that needs improvement.
Heaven
knows, we all could stand some improvement. The same is true of the
newspapers we publish, which include the Orland Press-Register, Corning
Observer and Colusa County Sun-Herald in addition to the Willows
Journal. Every newspaper is a work in progress, and it's not fun to
watch when that progress is sidetracked or when readers say we missed
the boat.
As for the election, our Nov. 5 print editions went
to press before the polls even closed Nov. 4. Our newspapers are
printed in Marysville following a tight schedule, and sometimes that
schedule forces us to omit news that we (and our readers) would love to
see in print sooner. That's one of the limitations of the printed page.
On
the plus side, we posted our election stories and results on our Web
sites as soon as they became available, so readers were able to see
them online before they appeared in Friday's print editions. That sort
of coverage wasn't possible in years past, but now we post first,
publish second. Owning a computer is not a requirement, Virginia, but
the growing numbers of readers who do have them can turn to our Web
sites for breaking news.
As for trying to do better, we are.
Every day. Those efforts aren't always as visible as our mistakes, but
I'm eternally thankful for our staff's hard work. About half of them
are working Thanksgiving Day to bring you today's edition. I hope
you'll agree it's time well spent.

| The threat did happen and it was shoved under the royal carpet, while somebody else would have been sent to the state pen. Also in that story, she allegedly bragged that her father was the judge and the other judge was her Godfather. The judge I think she was referring to resigned right after that incident that was never brought to the public’s attention. The reason this was so news worthy is because showed what kind of justice system we have in Glenn County. The 18-year-old also allegedly continued her threat, bragging that her family would ruin their family. Yes they do, and I know because they did, maliciously and for profit. Evidence was deliberately destroyed, truth ignored, lies manufactured. This happened after a letter was written to the Grand Jury and to the State Attorney General’s office about the county’s dirty deeds. It is a whom is who theocracy. One elitist class of rulers that operate like the Chicago machine generation after both in hiring practices and justice.
They move from one management job to another. While some dedicated workers will put in their time, much newer hires are put into management positions. Always these newspapers promote the same group. If they are friends or relation, they get hired on into management position. It is well known that this is the case. They move around in these upper positions. The nepotism is common place. It is disgraceful that this is done under the American flag. Glenn County and the other smaller county economies are dependent on all these government bureaucracies. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. |

| to the other commenter, you're not from around here, are you? why are you screaming about an alleged threat that may or may not have happened, over a year ago? aren't there much, much more important things to be drumming about? more pressing mysteries that need immediate solving? for one, i'd sure like know know what DID happen to good ol' bud fogelsong. |

| Interim editor, I would like to see this public newspaper be more than a propagandist rag for the local politicians and government and the influential that rule over them. These counties are run like Theocracies. Certain crimes are ignored while other people’s entire families have been used as red meat to feed the massive government in these sparely populated counties. A year ago the judge’s daughter allegedly made terrorist threats against some young teens, threatening to slit their throats. She bragged that her Daddy was the judge and the other judge was her GodFather, adding that her family would ruin their families. I am speaking as a Father who indeed had his family “ruined” by this turd and excuse of a judge. This paper did not run the story and as far as I know, justice was not properly served again. |
