Gerry Stein

Gerry Ann Stein, loving mother, sister grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in Chico, CA, on Saturday, May 3, 2008.

Gerry was born April 20, 1928, in Fresno, to Edwin and Edna Greenwald.

The family moved to southern California where Gerry met her future husband, Paul Stein, in high school. They were married in Arizona in 1944. Paul and Gerry moved to Orland in 1949.

Gerry spent many years as a Girl Scout leader, served as the commissioner of the Orland Little League, and was a Past-president and district officer of the PTA.

Gerry began working for the Orland Public Schools in 1965 and retired in 1995.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Paul G. Stein, her parents Ed and Enda Greenwald and her sister Edwina Lacy.

She is survived by her five children Don (Suzi) of Concord, Roberta Stein, of Orland, Donna (Terry) Simonetti, of Orland, Kenneth (Carol Blacet), of Chico and Marvin (Carol), of Chico; her sister Virginia (J.D.) Scott, of Granbury, TX; brother Edwin (Glenda), of Claremont; and brother-in-law Ronald R. Stein, of Orland.

She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Stein, as she was known to by many others, was chosen by them to be their substitute mother or grandmother.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, at F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary, 825 A. Street, Orland. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, from 4 to 8 p.m.
