Crime Briefs: Man found guility in rape of girl, 13

A Colusa County jury recently convicted Frank Crawshaw of raping a 13-year-old girl.

The jury returned the conviction Jan. 19 on felony counts of foreign penetration of a minor and performing a lewd act on a minor, the Colusa County District Attorney's Office reported.

Crawshaw, 61, who knew his victim, is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Feb. 29, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Crawshaw was arrested Nov. 18, 2010, just hours after the investigation had started the night before, the Colusa County Sheriff's Department reported.

Investigators had been called to an Orange Avenue home on the report of a rape.

Kidnapping arrest made

A Colusa man was arraigned in Colusa County Superior Court this week on suspicion of kidnapping after he reportedly grabbed a former girlfriend and forced her to walk with him in an apparent attempt to talk to her, the Colusa County Sheriff's Department reported.

Jermaine Lonell Roberts, 34, also has been charged with grand theft auto and a misdemeanor count of false imprisonment.

Lt. Shane Maxey said deputies were called to the 1300 block of Clay Street on Tuesday on a report that a man, identified as Roberts, woke the residents at the Clay Street home at about 2 a.m. He reportedly put his hand over the mouth of his former girlfriend and forced her to come with him some 90 feet before she pulled away.

The identity of the woman, who has moved from the area, is being withheld by this paper due to the nature of the matter.

Maxey said Roberts, who had apparently taken the woman's car keys, fled on foot when deputies arrived. At some point, he returned and drove off with her car without permission.

Near 4 a.m., Roberts reportedly returned to the home. Deputies were called back to the house and arrested him.

Roberts is scheduled to return to court Feb. 4 to enter a plea. He is being held in the Colusa County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Two arrested in car theft

Two Meridian men were arrested at about 5:20 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of grand theft auto following what law enforcement reported was an attempt to recycle an old car at a Colusa facility.

David Wayne Meyer, 57, and William Augustas Turnbull, 61, reportedly towed a nonworking car belonging to someone else from Meridian to the recycling center in Colusa, Colusa police reported.

The owner of the car somehow learned of the situation, contacted law enforcement, and the two men were eventually stopped on Fifth Street, between Main and Market streets, until California Highway Patrol officers could arrive to make the arrest, Colusa police reported.

The CHP, which was the lead agency because of the nature and location of the reported crime, declined to comment. An officer said the matter was still under investigation and there was "a possibility" someone else could be involved.

Meyer and Turnbull were booked into the Colusa County Jail on suspicion of grand theft auto and receiving stolen property. Bail was set at $20,000 each.

Fugitive back in Colusa jail

A Washington woman facing felony drunken driving charges stemming from a May 7 accident in which her passenger was injured is back in jail after being arrested in her home state, according to Colusa County Jail reports.

Amber Marie Florek, 27, of Longview, Wash., was arrested by Colusa County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday in Washington, and returned to Colusa County on a no-bail hold.

Florek also faces a variety of drug-related counts from her original arrest, the jail reported.

The original arrest was made by the California Highway Patrol following the accident on Interstate 5.
