Berdine Chappell, 51, of Willows, is a barista as well as the owner of the newly opened Hairtique Salon. Some of her fondest memories are the silly things she and her six siblings did while growing up.

Berndine Chappell

Name: Berdine Chappell.

Age: 51.

Family: Husband, Dennis Chappell; children: Desiree Rogers and her husand, Nick; Richelle Stevenson and husband, Scott; Lindsay and Christine van Tol; stepchildren: Michael, Stephen and Jennifer Chappell; and grandkids: Jordyn and Chase Rogers.

City of residence: Willows.

Occupation: A barista and the owner of the newly opened Hairtique Salon on East Wood Street.

How do you relax: I like to watch movies, because that's when I won't worry about the laundry, etc.

What are your goals for this year? To get my new salon off to a good start.

What are your favorite things about summer? There's no set routine with school and the kids. I like the kids being home.

What are some of your fondest memories? Growing up in a large family with six other siblings and all of the silly things we would get into; the birth of my children and all of their firsts: first word, first step, etc.; and honeymooning in Bora Bora.

Whom do you most admire and why? No one specific, just in general anyone who I see who makes the right decision, even when it's hard.

What's something about yourself that your friends might not know? I really do want to slow down.

What is your dream job? I'm doing it: hair.

What qualities in people do you most admire? Modesty and honesty.

What was the last thing that made you laugh? Maybe not the last, but it was recent and definitely funny: My granddaughter recently learned her last name and she came to the bathroom door while I was in the shower and announced, "Va Va (which means grandma in Portuguese), it's Jordyn — Jordyn Rogers." So cute.

What topic of conversation really gets you steamed? Not that it's a topic in everday conversation, but child abuse. I see how some people treat their kids and it really bothers me.

What are you thankful for? Every day with my family.

Is there anything you're truly passionate about? Trying to keep a Christian point of view in this crazy life.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Surviving all our kids. Just kidding, guys. I love you.
