Legion chooses Boys' State rep
Dear Editor,
On April 2, American Legion Post 34 member Raul Baca and I interviewed candidates for the 71st annual California Boys’ State Convention, a par of the National Americanism Program.
Mr. Tom Bryant counselor at Willows High School, provided us with four oustanding young applicants to interview. All of the candidates were well-qualified, exhibiting excellent qualities of leadership, scholarship, citizenship, intelligence and capacity for service to his fellow man; a testament to the quality of our local community and education system.
Raul and I had a tough time choosing just one for the Post to sponsor. We chose Beau Brothers as our candidate, and Jared Schmidt as our alternate, to attend the one week course.
American Legion Boys’ State is a leadership action program, where qualified male high school juniors take part in a practical government course, designed to develop a working knowledge of government and to impress upon them the fact that government is just what they make it. they will return home to furnish leadership in the school and the community. The American Legion Alfred J. Foster Post 34 would like to tahnk all of the participants, and especially Mr. Bryant, for their help in his endeavor.
Jon Hays, Commander
American Legion Post 34
